Rants from Texas Motor Speedway

I don't have a lot to say about this week's race at Texas Motor Speedway. I went again this year like I have for the last 8 years, Greg Biffle was certainly the class of the field, and Jack Roush has got that place figured out.

1. Is there a bigger bunch of joiners in NASCAR than Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans? I like Junior and think he's a good guy burdened with carrying a big name, but I don't see why so many fans, especially new fans, are so quick to jump on his jock. It must be because of his name, but if that's the case, Kyle Petty should have 10 trailers on the souvenir midway.

During driver introductions, the catchfence was lined with Junior fans salivating at getting glimpse of him from 100 yards away. I just don't get it. Ryan Newman has probably 1/10th of the fans with about the same number of wins and on a wider variety of tracks.

2. Since this website is also dedicated to Aggies, I'll make a related commentary about some of my Big XII brethren. I love motorsports of all kinds. If it has wheels and a motor, I'll pay to see it raced. That tends to put me in with some rough company, but I don't mind. I'm a redneck at heart.

That said, Oklahoma Sooner fans are some of the trashiest looking people I see at Texas Motor Speedway each year. Good grief, Okies. Have some pride.
